Turkey Calls and Overalls

I just got word that perhaps that lease we had in Oklahoma, the one my husband harvested all his does on, may not be out of the family after all!!! This means one thing: SPRING TURKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know a lot of hunters live for big bucks, and I am no different, but my first ever trip to the woods involved a turkey hunt I will never, ever forget. I am thinking of some how getting those memories put into a tattoo. That is besides the point! I LOVE long beards so very, very much! This is truly a HUNT. They interact with you and can actually hear them coming to you, and that to me is the most thrilling hunt! I cannot wait! I am so excited! Can you tell? HAHAHA!

Archery Tournament #1

Yesterday my hubs and I entered our first 3D bow tourney!!! It was amazing! I had no idea what to expect and I was so pleasantly surprised!! Our team of four consisted of Me, Hubs, Scott and Chase. We had such a blast!! There were 30 targets, and the most points you could get, if you shot all bulls-eyes, was 360! I racked up 195 points, and I am very proud of that! Hubby got 258! I am so excited about having a tourney every month until September!!! Here are a few pictures of our awesome adventure!

I hope I have not been forgotten!!

There is so much to update! Where to start?? How about with my husbands AWESOME buck he killed while he was in Oklahoma (which is where my last post left off!!)!

His poor cheeks! I think it was 16 below or something awful! Well, then he killed a couple more doe and some coyotes.... Yeah, notice how nothing is about me???? That is right, I did not kill, shoot at, or barely even SEE anything!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, I am not as bitter as that may come across, we did have an awesome time in the woods this season. I had my ups and downs, lost my dog, and had my husband continually rub in my face that he dominates, but alas, it was a good season.

In other news, we have three leases now!! So I just know that this time next year there will be some pictures that include ME with some AWESOME animals!!

Well, that is all I have time for tonight, but I do have so much to tell! Like I said, I hope that I was not forgotten during my LONG absence, and for that absence I do apologize!!!

I am sorry for the lack of posting. Since Abby passed I have not been in the mood for much of anything. My husband is in Oklahoma hunting the last few days of our last year on that particular lease. This is the lease that I was introduced to hunting on... I wish so badly that I was able to go with him. I guess it good that I didn't go, that way Abby would not have passed away alone. It is still so strange not having her here. I know it will get easier, and I am so thankful for all the kind words and well wishes that yall have bestowed upon me. I am so blessed for my blogger friends! I hope each of you receives a blessing for being so compassionate! Thank you.

I lost my friend today. I took her to the Vet today because she has been weak and will not eat. Turns out she was very, very sick. This came on suddenly and I urge everyone to please go check your dog right now! Make sure they are super happy and will eat a treat. They do not know what brought it on, but there was not anything they could do that would not cause her any more pain, or that could kill her in the process. We decided to put her down, so that she would no longer be in pain. I hate this more than anything, this is one of the hardest things I have ever done. I loved Abby so much and looked so forward to hunting with her in South Dakota next Fall. Duke and Lexi will miss there friend so much, and TJ and I will miss her dearly. I am glad to have the few weeks I had with her, she was such a good dog. I love you, Abby.

Holdin' Out

Here we are. Monday, November 16th. This means that it is halfway through November, the rut is upon us, and I have nothing to show for it. It is funny how, up until TODAY, it has been hotter in November than it was in October. It was a great bow season, I could not believe that in just a few short weeks my husband had harvested a hog and doe! I was pumped about rifle season! Don't get me wrong, I have had the cross-hairs on two deer (buck and a doe) over the last few weeks, but I kept telling myself that I am holdin' out for a monster! I have been calling him "Big Papa". The first buck I had in my sight, but passed up on was a huge six-point. He was young, well, 2-ish, probably, but he had a great rack. The second, a doe, a FAT doe...but she kept looking behind her and I just knew "Big Papa" was behind her.... Nope! Just let her go.
It is nights like these when you are looking back over pictures, and knowing that you are not going back to lease until after Thanksgiving that you kick yourself, kick yourself HARD and think... WHY DIDN'T I JUST PULL THE TRIGGER!!???? I WOULD AT LEAST HAVE MORE MEAT IN THE FREEZER! Ah well, I hope my patience is a virtue after Thanksgiving. I am going to be hunting long and hard those days I get to go out! May not even cook on Thanksgiving morning and go out to the stand....haven't decided! I know I shouldn't be kicking myself, and this is what hunting is all about...I have done it long enough to know...but I just wish I were as lucky as the ole hubby and already taken something....my dang buck fever wouldn't be so high!! Ah well. Nice talking to yall. Thanks for letting me vent! Yall are the best!

Opening Day

Saturday was Opening Day here in East Texas! I was born and raised here in East Texas. Any of you that live in the South, or have ever hunted in the South, you know that the weather is just plumb strange! Saturday morning was 60 degrees at 4:00 am. We got out to our box blind around 5:50 and waited. It was so foggy! Foggy and hot. Bright moon. Just bad all around! We ended up being out until about noon. By noon it was 80! Just crazy! Best part of the morning was walking to the truck we spooked one of the biggest bucks I have ever seen! Just my luck! Haha! But man it was a rush! I loved it! I am excited to see what Rifle season brings as it gets colder! I am going to another lease I have yet to go to with my Husband on Wednesday! I am pumped! Hope to get something! Patience is the key!

Fresh Start

Tomorrow is Opening Day in East Texas!!!! I am super excited!! Spending the evening watching some of my favorite shows; Bone Collector and Realtree Roadtrips!!!

Earlier in the week TJ (husband) and I went to the range and zero-ed in my Encore! AwwYeah! It was awesome!! I AM READY!!!

Bow season is over. I am sad to see it end. As most of you know, this was my first bow season to partake in, and it was such a blast! When I walked into Gander Mountain only five weeks ago and purchased my Diamond, I had no idea what I was in store for! It has been such a great experience, and I am so excited to continue into the rifle season!

Sunday morning was our last trip out. We got up around 5, which was really 4! And headed to the lease around 4:45am. When we got out to the lease I had no idea just how much rain we have gotten in the last week or so! There was about 3-12inches of standing water on the grounds. We had about three inches in the blind with us! We saw a six-point chase a doe, and a coyote came in and scared them away. Nothing came into bow range! I hate that, but what can you do? Here are some pictures I took of the lease and the rain!

This is my new baby! I haven't had any luck during bow season thus far. Sunday will be my last day to kill anything with my Diamond. So I am now looking forward to Rifle season! I will be picking up some ammo and heading to the range with this beauty probably in between hunts on Sunday! I am really excited to take something with my new Encore!

Slow Bow Season

Good Evening!

Bow Season is drawing to an end. Hah, no pun intended...well, maybe it was. :) I have not harvested a darn thing! It makes me upset. I hate to be whiny, but man! I was excited to use my new Diamond! I have been at the range and in the yard practically everyday getting ready to whip it good on something! (ANYTHING at point!) Ah, well....

My husband has only gotten a hog.

It has been plumb awful! I am hoping that Rifle season will be far more adventurous! We have been tracking two pretty nice bucks on the CuddeBack's. Let us hope we see them Opening Weekend! It is times like these that I am so glad I decided to start a blog, my girl friends do not understand Huntin & Fishin and all that.... So they would think me to be "sick" if I complained to them about not killing anything. HAH! I want so badly to meet other girls, and especially other couples who hunt. Maybe one day, like at the Duck's Unlimited Gala next year!

I hope that everyone has had a great weekend! I hope it was more interesting than mine! :D

This is my Lunch Time Reading recently! We have worked this book with our other labs, but I do believe with Abby being five months old, it is going to be quite the fete! So I am trying to take in as much of the book as possible in the short times I get to pick it up! Has anyone else trained there field dogs with this as a reference?

Good Evening, Friends!

I want to start this off by Thanking each of you who Follow me and have be-friended me! I just love blogging! I love reading all of yalls blogs, and your comments just touch my heart! Thank yall so very much!

Today I was at Gander Mnt. at the Archery Lanes, first I talked to one of the guys that works there and another man about my bow and how I am liking it. I noticed that for the first time in a few weeks that there were other ladies in the lanes, my age even! I was super excited to possibly make new friends! Oh man, was I EVER wrong! They looked me up and down, gave me the dirtiest looks and didn't even extend a 'Howdy'. I was so hurt I packed up and left. I just wish that girls didn't compete! I would love more than anything if all my girlfriends hunted, and wanted to get together and pop off some arrows with me. I hope to maybe see them again, and I will just be nice as pie and hope they reciprocate! They just hurt my feelings, this is the great outdoors, God's Country; don't they know it isn't a popularity contest? Ah, well. Can't do anything about it, just hope they become more hospitable.

Big Nothing Down

Good Afternoon! I hope everyone has had a great Saturday! I sure wish I could report all of what I dreamed last night, but alas those dreams did not come true. We got out to the lease this morning around 5:56, and hunted until 10:00am. This is a picture of the feeder we were hunting.

Not a single animal came in to feed, I just cannot believe that. Usually a feeder letting out corn is the almighty morning breakfast bell! I just do not know what happened! It was perfect! 48 degrees, perhaps because it was so sunny and bright.

The bugs were out in full-force, of course, though! Here is just a cutesy picture of a caterpillar that found her way onto my bow. Hah! Around 9, we did see a hog, but he was way out on the field line, and I think he was lookin for a woman! Heh! The best part of the hunt was when we were checking one of the Cuddeback's and saw a Doe and her fawn running through one of the fields. Just beautiful. Tried to get the bow, but just too far out!

Although, I did not get any meat on the table, I had such a great time! It was a beautiful morning, fall is in the air and it was just majestic. I love being with my husband and those blind/stand talks are always the most precious. This morning we went with my Uncle Kent and Uncle Don, and it is always so much fun to be with family, especially doing something that we all love so much!

We may be heading back out tonight, we will just have to see. If not, I will be back out there next Saturday. I also ordered my new T/C Encore and it will be here Wednesday. I hope this Rifle Season is one for the record books!

I have spent every day at Gander Mountain slinging arrows, and getting ready for tomorrow's big hunt! It isn't a big day for any reason other than that I am finally off and I have a few more weekends of bow season and I am looking forward to getting my first kill with my new Diamond and I am just SUPER excited! I better hit the hay, but man my heart is already pounding with not knowing what tomorrow may bring! I am gonna be dreamin of some big bucks tonight!! Goodnight, all! I hope to be updating again tomorrow afternoon with some great news!!

Meet Abby!

Meet Abby! This is as good of picture as I can get right now, she is a bit hyper! HAH! Today at work a lady asked if anyone wanted a five month old Chocolate Lab, her owners were moving and couldn't take her. Well, we lost one of our Black Labs Labor Day weekend and have been talking about getting another Lab to train as a bird dog. The lab that passed, Bandit, was my best buddy, he didn't hunt, but man was he ever woman's best friend! When this opportunity presented itself, what was I to do? Let the poor thing be taken to a shelter... No way!! So now she is my best gal, just as sweet and well-mannered as you could ask for! Already a fetching fool! I will try and get more pictures of her and I will post her progress into becoming the first Water Dog that I train and field hunt! This is going to be a great journey!!

Okay, UPDATE***

I already have a new bow, the Pink Parker just didn't do it for me.... I needed something that was bit more powerful and could get to 60lbs... So Monday night I went and got a Bowtech Diamond. I LOVE IT!!! I really love how fast it is! Today was my second day shooting it and I got a bulls eye at 25 yards right out of the box!! Talk about a confidence booster!!! I am so excited to hunt Saturday!!!!!

When I was growing up no one let me hunt with them, they always said I was too loud and I would scare any animal within a 20 mile radius! So when I met my now husband and he wanted to take me, I was super excited! Turns out that I loved it just as much as he did! At first, and because of some not so nice female family members, I hid this fact. What a waste, so now I just shout it from the roof tops! I love hunting and fishing with my husband! He is such a great man and I love being involved in something that puts us in God's Country and builds our relationship! No talking needed! Hah!

Can't wait to hear what yall have to say!
